Meet Sammy

Sammy is a 21 year old off the track thoroughbred. I have had him for 15 years. He is a seal brown gelding, but more often looks completely black when the sun hasn't brought out the brown of his nose :-) I like to think of him as a quiet hearted soul with a sense of humor and touch of stubbornness. He is a complete overthinker when it comes to working. During our lessons he always thinks he knows what's coming next. At 21 years old, he still likes to take off at a canter or gallop thinking if he just does everything faster, the lesson will be over faster. Walk-Trot-Canter-Done, right?

As much as he feels he is "overworked", (maybe a lesson here and there - with two little boys under 6 I barely get out to the barn once a week), I do think he appreciates the attention. My trainer often uses him for summer camp ground work and it's clear he likes being around children.

I was touched by the sweet, steadiness to this horse... so, I had to paint him looking right at you. As though deeply considering what you just said. I loved painting him, Jamie!
