The Magic and the Mess - January
|
Hello hello!
I am back! Yes we took a break for this newsletter in December - but I was a bit sick and needed the rest. But here we are now! :)
There are so many things to tell you.
For starters, I have been taking a wee bit of a sabbatical this January. After about 12 months of working so very hard, I decided to only make art that "I can't sell" i.e. art that fills my soul with joy and I have no intention of selling. Of course, it is turning out to be some of my best work yet - and so, maybe, just maybe, I'll start sharing sneak peaks of it in the coming weeks.
I have been leaning into the idea of Slow January. My friend Jenny recently introduced me to this idea: did you know, that starting January with a bang is a traditionally patriarchal idea? And does not honor our natural rhythms? As I started to learn about it, it just made sooo much sense! The earth is dark and resting, the days are short and the trees are barren. Accordingly, we've been doing something similar around here. Staying home, cooking with the slow cooker, and lighting candles at 4pm almost every day. It feels like just what the doctor ordered.

In other news, my kiddos have been riding with me. The toddler has been riding the minnie on the trail and sometimes I ride my Rocky Mountain gelding with the toddler in front of me. It’s been so much joy. He loves it and can now sit a trot! After I get done writing this, we’ll be heading back out to the barn for some more.
What things are coming for you? I’ve got beaitiuful things in the works. Such as a BIG sale of all the extra artwork in my studio. This will be live in about a month! And a whole set of hand-painted dishes, bowls and plates that will be perfect for collecting will become available just in time for Mother's Day.
Now, onto the favorites below!
Lots of love, B

- This is the most wonderful slow cooker cookbook
- I have been burning so many of these candles in vintage silver candle sticks. I mix them up with the beeswax candles I brought home from our last trip to Germany.
- This podcast talks about Slow January & work.
- We ride this bike EVERYWHERE. I don't have to drive the truck anymore! My kids love it!
- I have been making home made bone broth with bones from the local butcher and highly recommend it. Our soups are SO much better. One trick I just learned: add a couple tablespoons of ACV and cook for 20-24 hours. Drain, and use the bones for one more round of broth making. I.e. I use my bones twice.
Just so you know, I don't make anything for any of these links. I am not an affiliate of any company. I am sharing these things, purely because they have giving me such joy and other people should to have them too.
